Why is it worth buying a Shimano Sedona FI spinning reel?
This transformation process of Sedona FI is unlike any other in the world and was once reserved for reels within Shimano’s premium range. This is why the introduction of Hagane Gear into the Shimano Sedona FI series represents a significant step towards the ultimate in smooth, strong, and durable fishing reels.
In addition to Hagane Gear, the Shimano Sedona FI series features G Free Body, developed to shift the reel’s center of gravity closer to the rod, improving casting performance and reducing angler fatigue. So here are some facts that clarify why you should consider this reel for your next fishing.
Upgraded Spinning Reel
The iconic Shimano Sedona has quite literally stepped up a gear with the Shimano Sedona FI series. In the pursuit of further engineering excellence, Shimano has incorporated the Hagane Gear into this eight reel series. When compared to the previous FE model, the Shimano Sedona FI also boasts a significant upgrade in that the redesigned rotor is lighter, and there’s improved drag output on the 500 through to the 8000 sizes.
To further promote casting performance, Shimano’s AR-C Spool design produces longer casting distances and prevents the formation of backlashes and wind knots, whilst Varispeed II ensures even line lay, making the Shimano Sedona FI ideal for braided and monofilament line use. Dedicated to all light tackle pursuits, ranging from bream on bait to snapper on plastics.
Different sizes & models
With a wide range of models in the series ranging from 500 up to 8000 sizes, all feature 3+1 bearings, and the drag output varies between 7 and 24 LB depending on the model. When compared to the previous Shimano Sedona FE model, the Shimano Sedona FI boasts a significant upgrade with Hagane Gear, a redesigned rotor that is lighter, and an improved drag output on the 500 through to the 8000 sizes.
Drawing upon the benefits of Shimano’s market-leading technologies and finished in stunning silver and gold cosmetics, the Shimano Sedona FI represents exception value at a price point that is accessible to all anglers.
The G Free Body gives great comfort since the internal parts of the reel are shifted closer to the rod compared to reels without the G Free Body feature. The combination of the HAGANE Gear and the G Free Body results in long-lasting reliability and comfort for the angler.
Amazing reel for the price
I’m a die-hard Shimano fan. I’ve always owned Shimano Stradic and used them as my workhorses and have landed a lot of saltwater fish, but the Shimano Sedona is my new prize, and I can’t wait to try it out. This reel is very affordable and surprisingly smooth! The only thing I’d change is the plastic pieces, but for the price, it’s perfect. I purchased the 500 sizes and spooled it with a 2 lb test. It’s paired with an 8 ft Ultralight rod to throw super light mini jigs. The reel is lightweight with a nice drag for the price tag.
Key Features Of Shimano Sedona FI Fishing Reels
The reel comes with some unique technical features in combination with the appealing design will make this a very reliable fishing partner for both novice and experienced anglers.
Powerful Cross Carbon Drag
This drag material provides a wider range of drag settings, along with the smoothest Shimano drag performance ever. The Shimano Sedona FI series includes models for everything from light freshwater to heavier offshore species, thanks to improved drag power and increased gear ratios. The Shimano Sedona FI 8000 model incorporates Shimano’s tougher Cross Carbon Drag to stand up to the rigorous pressure when battling large game fish.
G-Free Body For Better Casting
G-Free Body technology has been developed to shift the reel’s center of gravity closer to the rod. By moving the center of gravity closer to the angler’s hand position, the G-Free Body helps to reduce fatigue and enhance casting comfort.
G Free Body technology has been developed to shift the reel’s center of gravity closer to the rod. This has been achieved by moving the worm shaft oscillation mechanism 19mm from the bottom of the reel to the top. By moving the center of gravity closer to the angler’s hand position, the G Free Body helps to reduce fatigue and enhance casting comfort.
Hagane Gear with cold forging technology
With amazing strength and durability, the HAGANE Gear is at the very heart of the reel. Shimano, through the application of state-of-the-art technologies, gives you the long-lasting smoothness and pleasure that you feel when you first use a reel, over and over again. No cutting work is applied to the teeth of the drive gear.
The HAGANE Drive Gear is produced by Shimano’s cold forging technology without the need for additional machining. This delivers a long-lasting smoothness, strength, lightness, and power at the very heart of the reel. Traditional diecast, machined gears are less durable under heavy loads.
New Propulsion Line Management System
The most obvious component of the Propulsion Line Management System is the new Propulsion spool lip design. Through tens of thousands of casting tests and computer simulations, it has been determined that this new spool lip design provides longer casting distances than a standard spool lip design while preventing backlashes and wind knots from forming.
Its enhanced spool design features Shimano’s Propulsion Line Management System for increased casting distance. The G-Free body shifts the reel’s center of gravity closer to the rod, translating to less fatigue during long days on the water as well as enhanced casting or jigging comfort. The Shimano Sedona FI is available in sizes from 500 to 8000.
ARC Spool For Less Friction
Shimano ARC Spool is a patented spool design with an angled spool lip. This design enables the line to leave the spool with less friction and in smaller coils resulting in longer, more accurate casts. ARC spools are proven to reduce backlash and wind knots when using braid.
Varispeed II oscillation system
Varispeed and the latest version called VariSpeed II oscillation system move with two variable speeds to lay the line flat and smooth onto the spool. This provides trouble-free, longer distant casts.
Power Roller
The special grooved design of the Shimano Power Roller significantly reduces line twists and is a big advantage when using thin mono and braid.

Shimano Sedona FI Video Review:
Reviews Of Shimano Sedona FI Spinning Reel- My Experience
You can’t beat the Shimano Sedona FI line for virtually every kind of freshwater fishing. I now own three of them, and all have served me well. This is a modestly priced reel, but you get a lot for the money. It may not be the ‘top of the line”, but it comes very close. So let’s check out what users said about this reel-
Another Fine Shimano Product
The Sedona has always been a workhorse-type reel, but the newer one is a dream to fish with. It works great in inshore saltwater but remembers to rinse the reel. This is my third Sedona. Have replaced all but one with the new reel—still a workhorse.
I have owned a Shimano Sedona 1000 for about 8 years. I caught largemouth, smallmouth, shads, carps, snakeheads, crappie, white and yellow perch, 21″ striper, and catfish. He handled it all with no problem. Cleaning and greasing after each season will last you forever.
Great Deal!
Nice Outlook
This reel is strong and smooth. It’s worth the price. I want to buy another one for my other rod. These reels are what I wanted for my jigging setup: great look and line capacity. I can’t wait to test them out soon. What a great reel for this price! It couldn’t be a better deal. Great customer service.
