Shimano Sedona FI details:

The Shimano Sedona FI is a beautifully designed spinning reel and the lowest priced spinning reel of Shimano that features Shimano’s HAGANE Gearing. Because of the unrivaled HAGANE Gear the angler can be confident that the reel will show tremendous durability over the years, even under extremely heavy use.

At the heart of the Shimano Sedona FI line of spinning reels is Shimano’s state-of-the-art technology, the HAGANE Gear.

The incorporation of HAGANE cold-forging technology into the Shimano Sedona FI gives it a step up from other reels in its class and provides long-lasting smoothness and durability for assured resilience even after countless battles with your target species.

The Shimano Sedona FI series includes models for everything from light freshwater to heavier offshore species thanks to improved drag power and increased gear ratios. The Shimano Sedona FI 8000 model incorporates Shimano’s tougher Cross Carbon Drag to stand up to the rigorous pressure when battling large game fish.

The Shimano Sedona FI’s enhanced spool design features Shimano’s Propulsion Line Management System for increased casting distance. The G-Free body shifts the reel’s center of gravity closer to the rod, translating to less fatigue during long days on the water as well as enhanced casting or jigging comfort. The Shimano Sedona FI is available in sizes from 500 to 8000.

The iconic Shimano Sedona FI has stepped up a gear with the new FI series. In the pursuit of engineering excellence, Shimano has again raised the standard with the incorporation of the Hagane cold forged gear. By leveraging Shimano’s unique metalworking technologies, 200 tons of pressure is applied to the raw metal, resulting in a perfectly formed gear that is free from any machine cutting or imperfections.

Shimano Sedona FI

This transformation process is unlike any other in the world and was once reserved for reels within Shimano’s premium range. This is why the introduction of Hagane Gear into the Shimano Sedona FI series represents a significant step towards the ultimate in smooth, strong and durable fishing reels.

In addition to Hagane Gear, the Shimano Sedona FI series features G Free Body, developed to shift the reel’s center of gravity closer to the rod, improving casting performance and reducing angler fatigue.

The iconic Shimano Sedona has quite literally stepped up a gear with the Shimano Sedona FI series. In the pursuit of further engineering excellence, Shimano has incorporated the Hagane Gear into this eight reel series. When compared to the previous FE model, the Shimano Sedona FI also boasts a significant upgrade in that the redesigned rotor is lighter, and there’s improved drag output on the 500 through to the 8000 sizes.

To further promote casting performance, Shimano’s AR-C Spool design produces longer casting distances and prevents the formation of backlashes and wind knots, whilst Varispeed II ensures even line lay, making the Shimano Sedona FI ideal for braided and mono filament line use. Dedicated to all light tackle pursuits, ranging from bream on bait to snapper on plastics.

 Shimano Sedona FI

With a wide range of models in the series ranging from 500 up to 8000 sizes, all feature 3+1 bearings and the drag output varies between 7 and 24 LB depending on the model. When compared to the previous Shimano Sedona FE model, the Shimano Sedona FI boasts a significant upgrade with Hagane Gear, a redesigned rotor that is lighter and an improved drag output on the 500 through to the 8000 sizes.

Drawing upon the benefits of Shimano’s market leading technologies and finished in stunning silver and gold cosmetics, the Shimano Sedona FI represents exception value at a price point that is accessible to all anglers.

The G Free Body gives great comfort since the internal parts of the reel are shifted closer to the rod compared to reels without the G Free Body feature. The combination of the HAGANE Gear and the G Free Body results in longlasting reliability and comfort for the angler.

 Shimano Sedona FI

These strong technical features in combination with the appealing design will make this a very reliable fishing partner for both novice and experienced anglers.

Shimano Sedona FI features:

Cross Carbon Drag – This drag material provides a wider range of drag settings, along with the smoothest Shimano drag performance ever.

G-Free Body – G-Free Body technology has been developed to shift the reel’s center of gravity closer to the rod. By moving the center of gravity closer to the anglers hand position, the G-Free Body helps to reduce fatigue and enhance casting comfort.

G Free Body technology has been developed to shift the reel’s centre of gravity closer to the rod. This has been achieved by moving the worm shaft oscillation mechanism 19mm from the bottom of the reel to the top. By moving the centre of gravity closer to the anglers hand position, the G Free Body helps to reduce fatigue and enhance casting comfort.

Hagane Gear – With amazing strength and durability, the HAGANE Gear is at the very heart of the reel. Shimano, through the application of state-of-the-art technologies, gives you the long-lasting smoothness and pleasure that you feel when you first use a reel, over and over again. No cutting work is applied to the teeth of the drive gear.

The HAGANE Drive Gear is produced by Shimano’s coldforging technology, without the need for additional machining. This delivers a longlasting smoothness, strength, lightness
and power at the very heart of the reel. Traditional diecast, machined gears are less durable under heavy loads.

Instead the entire surface is calculated in minute detail by special 3D design and then formed by Shimano’s cold forging technology. The result is assured resilience. It’s the fruit of Shimano’s inexhaustible pursuit for durability; the strength and power of forged metal continues to represent the fundamental concept of Shimano reels.

Propulsion Line Management System – The most obvious component of the Propulsion Line Management System is the new Propulsion spool lip design. Through tens of thousands of casting tests and computer simulations it has been determined that this new spool lip design provides longer casting distances than a standard spool lip design while preventing backlashes and wind knots from forming.

ARC Spool – Shimano ARC Spool is a patented spool design with an angled spool lip. This design enables the line to leave the spool with less friction and in smaller coils resulting in longer more accurate casts. ARC spools are proven to reduce backlash and wind knots when using braid.

Varispeed II – Varispeed and the latest version called VariSpeed II oscillation system moves with two variable speeds to lay the line flat and smooth onto the spool. This provides trouble free, longer distant casts.

Power Roller – The special grooved design of the Shimano Power Roller significantly reduces line twist and is a big advantage when using thin mono and braid.

Reviews Of Shimano Sedona FI:

Another Shimano first

Rated 5 out of 5

I own a Shimano Sedona 1000 for about 8 years. I caught largemouth, smallmouth, shads, carps, snakeheads, crappie, white and yellow perch, 21″ striper, catfish…He handled it all with no problem. Cleaning and greasing after each season and will last you forever.

Nice reel!

Rated 5 out of 5

This reel is strong and smooth. It’s worth the price. I want to buy another one for my other rod.

Awesome reel

Rated 5 out of 5

These reels are exactly what I wanted for my jigging setup. Great look and line capacity. I can’t wait to test them out soon.

Great Reel for the Price!

Rated 5 out of 5

You can’t beat the Shimano Sedona FI line for virtually every kind of freshwater fishing. I now own three of them, and all have served me well. This is a modestly priced reel, but you get a lot for the money. It may not be the ‘top of the line”, but it comes very close.

Smooth

Rated 4 out of 5

Reel is as expected. Smooth and balanced. Perfect for my med/fast action rod.

Another fine Shimano product

Rated 5 out of 5

The Sedona has always been a workhorse type reel but the newer one is a dream to fish with. Works great in inshore salt water but remember to rinse the reel. This is my third Sedona. Have replaced all but one with the new reel. Still a workhorse.

Great reel with a great price

Rated 4 out of 5

This reel is very affordable and surprisingly smooth! The only thing I’d change is the plastic pieces, but for the price it’s perfect.

Smooth

Rated 5 out of 5

So far i am liking the Sedona. It is smooth and drag is good. It is a little smaller than similar 6000 size reels and holds slightly less line. I have it paired with a 9’6 and it casts great. Havent had anything test it’s drag yet, but so far i am happy, especially for the price.

Awesome budget reel

Rated 5 out of 5

I purchased the 500 size and spooled it with 2 lb test. It’s paired with an 8 ft Ultralight rod to throw super light mini jigs. The reel is lightweight with a nice drag for the price tag.

Awesome Reel

Rated 5 out of 5

What a great reel for this price and along with the free reel. Couldn’t be a better deal. Great customer Service. Will buy again,

Durable reel for good value

Rated 5 out of 5

I use this reel for all light freshwater and inshore saltwater fishing. The Shimano Sedona FI 2500 s are on my freshwater setups targeting small mouth, large mouth, and the occasional trout and the Shimano Sedona FI 4000 are used to cast to cobia and drum. Same performance as reels 2-3x the price.

Absolute Unit

Rated 5 out of 5

I haven’t been fishing very long and was borrowing my buddy’s gear to figure out what I wanted. He was a Shimano guy and that led me to this purchase. I bought the Shimano Sedona FI 4000 and I take it everywhere I fish, beaches, piers, canals, etc. I’ve dunked this in saltwater and lazily rinsed it when I got home and there are no signs of wear. I paired it with a Penn Squadron 7ft rod and I’ve caught everything from Lizardfish to 3ft black tip. I highly recommend this reel for anyone who wants a decent reel for cheap.

Awesome deal for awesome reel

Paired this with a Penn Prevail 10′ Surf Rod. Casts my Daiwa salt pro minnows a mile. Spooled with Power Pro 40lb braid. Good combo and price was a steal.

Good, solid reel for small tarpon

Rated 4 out of 5

This reel was a good value proposition. Only time will speak to durability but seems well made. Unfortunate that it does not have braid retainer on the spool.

Great reel for throwing heavy lures into the surf

Rated 5 out of 5

I spent a week down in the Outer Banks in November and paired this reel with a 9ft Heavy action Salmon/Steelhead rod. It has a good feel when sweeping or popping plugs for strippers. Smooth drag and a decent line ratio retrieve. Very satisfied with my purchase.

Great Deal

Rated 5 out of 5

Can’t beat the price, the reel is well worth it. Bought it because of the higher drag and ability to turn some of the bigger fish or get them off of the bottom.

Great product

Rated 4 out of 5

I have had the Shimano Sedona FI 5000 for 3 seasons now. It has been an awesome reel. Smoother over time, I took a bad spill with it on my boat and bent the shaft slightly and it still works fine. My one complaint would be the drag washers. After 5 albies or so the felt drag washers were smoked and I had to upgrade to carbon washers

Big reel!

Rated 5 out of 5

Didn’t realize how much larger an Shimano Sedona FI 8000 would be to my Shimano Sedona FI 6000. Super strong reel and feels like you can catch whatever you want with no limits. So far only caught some bull reds with no issue.

Great Deal

Rated 4 out of 5

I bought this reel last year for Surf casting in Southern California. It cast smooth and the reel components are tight. No wiggling of the handle and no partial spin back of the reel. Drag is also smooth when pulling on a Barred surf perch or Corbina out of the surf.

Smooth and very quiet.

Rated 5 out of 5

Very good reel, surprisingly smooth and very quiet. The price is reasonable, for this quality, awesome!

Amazing reel for the price!

Rated 5 out of 5

I’m a die hard Shimano fan, I’ve always owned Shimano stradic and used them as my work horses , have landed a lot of salt water fish but the Shimano Sedona is my new prize and can’t wait to try it out.

Best Reel for the Money

Rated 5 out of 5

I bought the Shimano Sedona FI 8000 size for surf fishing, my penn reel broke so I had my eyes on this one, this reel is super smooth. Very light weight for a reel this size, and it feels like it’s made from super durable materials. Very impressed with this, might have to switch all of my spinning reels to this reel.

Affordable Beast

Rated 4 out of 5

Shimano bounding out the gates with this affordable beast. At 6000, the Sedona does a quality job of pulling any heavy creature. Halibut, lings, stripers, crabs you name it, it’s been caught. After half a year of use, it’s banged up, but still works fine with regular maintenance The bail is not the smoothest one I’ve used as sometimes the bail does not want to lock closed.

Sweet Little Spinning Reel

Rated 5 out of 5

To be honest, this is the first reel I have ever spent this much money for, always going for the economy models that just “get you by.” What a difference quality makes. This little thing is so smooth in all respects, from pick-up and gears (like butter) to drag. I paired it with a St. Croix Ultra Light trout rod for a small stream trout catcher combo.
