New LT Concept: Daiwa Procyon LT Review
The Daiwa LT section, which is the light tough spinning reels, has a new addition to spinning reels, and it’s the new Procyon LT. Absolutely beautiful reel. So let’s take a look at its features.
New LT Design With ZAION Frame
What makes this reel special as part of the LT line but actually has a ZAION frame, and you’ll find that ZAION frame on our ballistics. You also find it on our Tatulas. What makes it special is that the ZAION material, if you are trying to bend it, is really hard to bend, so that keeps the gears and precisely aligns it to cleave the stem from flexing. Most of the competition in the industry right now they’re carbon, and as you know, it bends.
The ZAION hardly bends it all, so that’s gonna keep everything in precise alignment, it also has our direct drive gear system, so the gear directly drives into the wheel. I guess it is an absolutely beautiful reel you’re looking at at a price point of around $159.
Smooth ATD Drag System
An ATD Drag System uses a new proprietary grease that enables the reel to apply smooth and consistent start-up drag pressure from the first pull. The rigid machined aluminum handle smoothly transfers power to the stout Diggers. The Diggers are accurately cut from a strong, lightweight cold-forged aluminum making for a silky smooth operation. With 6 Ball Bearings and a roller bearing, the reel is as smooth as silk—sizes from 1000 to 4000.
Daiwa’s Procyon LT Spinning Reels have a light yet tough design. The Daiwa Procyon LT Spinning Reels leverage a range of Daiwa’s signature technologies to produce exceptional performance. Utilizing a lightweight ZAION body comprised of densely packed carbon fibers, the True Carbon Frame of the Daiwa Procyon LT Spinning Reels delivers a substantial weight reduction without sacrificing anything in terms of overall rigidity.
Lightweight Air Rotor
The Air Rotor weighs up to 15% less than ordinary rotor designs. Its unique shape reduces unnecessary weight while distributing stress more evenly throughout the rotor for maximum strength. The all-new DigiGear is a precision machine cut and polished. This results in unmatched efficiency, better transfer of energy, and maximum smoothness.
Professional-Grade Performance
Emphasizing the toughness in Daiwa’s new LT approach to reel design, the Daiwa Procyon LT Spinning Reel is fitted with an ATD Drag that gives anglers the upper hand on big fish. Complete with an aluminum handle for increased rigidity, the Daiwa Procyon LT Spinning Reels utilize a number of Daiwa’s most cutting-edge technologies to provide the very best in competition-grade performance.
The Advanced Tournament Drag system uses a new proprietary grease that enables the reel to apply smooth and consistent start-up drag pressure from the first pull, eliminating the stop-and-go pulling of drag that can result in broken lines and lost fish.

My Experience
After reading all the feature details from the above Daiwa Procyon LT review article, I will now share my experience with this fishing reel.
Procyon is definitely stronger
Its Z carbon is stronger/zero flex in this reel and is also very light. I do prefer this thicker bail wire. Drag works great. Just a typical Daiwa reel outstanding & what I have come to expect over the years. Only one complaint – the mag-sealed bearing would have been very nice for the price. It’s in the Daiwa Fuego, so why not the more expensive Daiwa Procyon?
Daiwa Procyon LT = Rugged!
Final Thoughts
If you are in the market for a light, powerful spinning reel with smooth, precise operation and lots of features, look to Daiwa’s PROCYON LT. It’s a state-of-the-art reel design. The LT family of reels boasts a smaller, lighter, more compact body which is paired with a larger DigiGear for the ultimate combination of Light and Tough.
